Construction company Veidekke has secured a contract to construct a new ambulance station with an office building at Sørlandet Hospital in Kristiansand, Norway, valued at nearly Nkr120m ($11.68m) excluding value-added tax (VAT).

Spanning 5,200m², the new five-storey building is designed to enhance the ambulance service's readiness and efficiency.

It will offer modern, flexible office spaces for rent, targeting the healthcare sector among other industries.

The building aims to be sustainable, meeting present and future standards for functionality and environmental considerations. It will also include parking facilities and access to public transport.

The ambulance station will feature a garage for eight vehicles, complete with a washing area, changing rooms, and a living area with a kitchen.

Separate office space and soundproof sleeping quarters will also be available, ensuring rest is undisturbed by the building's other activities.

Veidekke Bygg Agder district manager Atle Monan said: “This is an assignment we are very grateful to have won.

“We are already well underway with the interaction phase of the major project with a new emergency building and a new municipal health centre at Sørlandet Hospital, so it is particularly appropriate for our people to start with the ambulance station now.”

Construction is set to begin shortly, with the ambulance station expected to be completed in October and the office building in December 2026.

This contract is set to be recorded in Veidekke's order books for Q2 2025.

Veidekke was awarded a Nkr685m contract by Helse Førde in March 2021 for the construction of a new hospital in Førde, Norway.

This project formed a component of the extensive modernisation efforts at Førde Central Hospital.
