“With the official opening of Greiner Bio-One’s newest production location in Rainbach im Mühlkreis on Thursday 2nd July, our company is starting a new era in Upper Austria,” said CEO Franz Konrad (Ing.). The biggest private investment made in the Mühlviertel region in the past year has thus achieved its target. A total of €37 million was invested.

Research and development

Currently, arrangements are being made so that construction of the new research centre at the Rainbach location can begin at the start of August. This will mean that in future all research activities will be carried out at the Greiner Bio-One Mühlviertel location.

“With the annual production of 100 million petri dishes, we are working exactly according to plan,” Mr Konrad informed us. These petri dishes are used for bacteriological tests in hospitals as well as the food and drink industry. Furthermore, all safety products for blood collection are manufactured at this location. Expansion of the machines for manufacturing new safety products is planned for October of this year.

100 new jobs by the end of 2009

There are currently 45 employees in Rainbach. By the end of the year this should have increased to around 100 employees. Most employees live within a 25km radius of the company. Only employees from the region will be taken on in Rainbach.

“Cooperation with the competent authorities in Upper Austria and at the TMG has been exemplary,” commented Mr Konrad, looking forward to the opening ceremony in Rainbach, which will also be attended by Upper Austrian governor Dr Josef Pühringer and state business representative Viktor Sigl.

Greiner Bio-One now has seven production locations: Rainbach, Kremsmünster in Germany, USA, Brazil, Hungary and Thailand.
