More than 20 different diseases are transmitted by blood, amongst them Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV. Day for day, millions of people working in the health industry are exposed to the risk of being infected with one of these diseases due to a needlestick injury. For this reason, Greiner Bio-One developed the new VACUETTE® QUICKSHIELD Safety Tube Holder. The product was launched in Spring 2003.
The Greiner Bio-One safety tube holder can reduce the risk of infection through a needlestick injury during or after blood collection to an absolute minimum. The QUICKSHIELD is fitted with a protective cap that is attached to the holder and is activated immediately after blood collection: the protective cap is folded over using a solid support. An audible “click” indicates to the user that activation has been successful. The needle no longer poses an injury risk and is disposed of in a non-piercable plastic disposal box.
The particular advantage of the QUICKSHIELD is that the safey mechanism is activated directly after blood collection, and that the user never comes close to the needle with his or her hands – in contrast to some other products, where the protective cap is closed over the needle using the fingers. A number of studies prove that 62% of all needlestick injuries during blood collection occur in the time period beween removal of needle from the vein and disposal. The longer this time period, the higher the risk of injury and therefore infection.
The VACUETTE® QUICKSHIELD Safety Tube Holder is also distinguished due to simple handling. During blood collection, the protective cap is either to the right or to the left of the needle, ensuring that vision is never blocked during collection. The ergonomically designed tube holder is intended for exclusive use with oriented VACUETTE® blood collection needles.
The QUICKSHIELD is a new, innovative safety product from Greiner Bio-One, which makes an important contribution to health protection for personnel and patients.
The company invests consistently in the further development of safety products, in order to meet the special requirements of the user.
