1. University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital – 1,207 beds

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital is Alabama’s largest hospital, with 1,207 beds.

Located in Birmingham’s Medical District, the multi-speciality teaching and research hospital is the flagship medical campus of the UAB Health System, the state’s largest non-profit academic healthcare network.

2. Huntsville Hospital – 881 beds

The Huntsville Hospital, located in Huntsville, is the second largest hospital in Alabama, with 881 inpatient beds.

Governed by the City of Huntsville’s Health Care Authority, the non-profit hospital serves as the regional referral centre for around one million people in north Alabama and southern Tennessee.

The multi-speciality medical centre is also home to the JL Bedsole Rotary Rehabilitation Hospital and the EA Roberts Alzheimer’s Centre.

4. Brookwood Baptist Medical Centre – 645 beds

The Brookwood Baptist Medical Centre is a 645-bed general medical and surgical facility located in Birmingham, Alabama.

The hospital is the largest of five acute care hospitals operated by non-profit health system Brookwood Baptist Health in central Alabama. Brookwood Baptist Health was created through the merger of Brookwood Medical Center and Baptist Health System in 2015.

The multi-speciality hospital is recognised for clinical excellence in cancer and cardiovascular care, as well as robotic and minimally invasive surgery. It is also recognised as an advanced trauma centre.

6. Princeton Baptist Medical Centre – 505 beds

The Princeton Baptist Medical Centre in Birmingham is a general acute care hospital with 505 inpatient beds.

Run by non-profit health system Brookwood Baptist Health, the hospital provides medical and surgical care across a wide range of specialities, including cardiology, cancer care, neurology, orthopaedics, rehabilitation and psychiatrics, as well as bariatric, robotic and general surgery.

Princeton Baptist Medical Centre provides primary and emergency care to nearly 53,000 people each year. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to stroke management and COPD.

7. Baptist Medical Centre South – 492 beds

The Baptist Medical Centre South is a 492-bed general medical and surgical facility located in Montgomery, Alabama.

Operated by faith-based non-profit health system Baptist Health, the multi-speciality acute care hospital serves as a regional referral medical centre for the residents of Montgomery County in central Alabama.

Baptist Medical Centre South is recognised for clinical excellence in cardiovascular, orthopaedic, neurologic and surgical care. The hospital also provides behavioural health and maternity care services and houses a primary stroke centre and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

8. Grandview Medical Centre – 434 beds

The Grandview Medical Centre in Birmingham is a general acute care hospital with 434 licensed beds. It is owned by Community Health Systems (CHS), a leading healthcare provider based in Franklin, Tennessee.

The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility houses Level III trauma and certified chest pain and stroke centres, along with neonatal, surgical and medical intensive care units. 9. Southeast Health Medical Centre – 420 beds
