The cities of Little Rock and Fort Smith are home to three and two of Arkansas’ ten largest general hospitals, respectively. The state’s remaining top five hospitals are located in Jonesboro, Searcy, Fayetteville, Pine Bluff and Hot Spring.

1. Baptist Health Medical Centre-Little Rock – 843 beds

The Baptist Health Medical Centre in Little Rock is Arkansas’ largest hospital, with 843 inpatient beds. It is the flagship hospital campus of non-profit health system Baptist Health, which operates 11 hospitals and more than 100 healthcare clinics in Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

The full-service multi-speciality hospital is recognised for expertise in breast cancer treatment and acute ischaemic stroke care. It is also rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart and kidney failure, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, knee replacement and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

2. CHI St Vincent Infirmary Medical Centre – 615 beds

The CHI St Vincent Infirmary Medical Centre, also located in Little Rock, is the state’s second largest hospital, with 615 inpatient beds. It is operated by CHI St Vincent, a part of Catholic non-profit health system CommonSpirit Health.

The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility is designated as a Level II trauma centre and recognised for clinical excellence in cardiology, brain and spine care, and orthopaedics. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart and kidney failure, colon cancer surgery, stroke management, knee replacement and COPD.

3. UAMS Medical Centre – 535 beds

The UAMS Medical Centre in Little Rock is a 535-bed acute care hospital and Arkansas’ only academic medical centre, which is operated by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The multi-speciality teaching hospital is designated as the state’s only Level I trauma and comprehensive stroke centre. It also houses a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

UAMS Medical Centre is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to kidney failure, lung cancer surgery, COPD, stroke management and hip replacement.

4. Baptist Health-Fort Smith – 492 beds

Baptist Health-Fort Smith is a 492-bed general medical and surgical facility located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. It is the second largest hospital operated by Baptist Health in the state.

Operational since 1887, the multi-speciality acute care hospital runs one of Arkansas’ busiest emergency centres. Its areas of expertise include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, interventional radiology, stroke care, orthopaedics, general and minimally invasive surgery, women’s health and paediatrics.

5. St Bernards Medical Centre – 440 beds

The St Bernards Medical Centre is a 438-bed general acute care hospital in Jonesboro. It is operated by St Bernards Healthcare, a non-profit healthcare system based in north-east Arkansas.

The medical facility serves as a referral hospital by providing advanced inpatient care in cardiology, cancer treatment, geriatrics, and women’s and children’s health. It is also designated as a Level III trauma centre and houses the only NICU in eastern Arkansas.

6. Unity Health White County Medical Centre – 438 beds

The Unity Health-White County Medical Centre in Searcy is a general acute care facility with 438 licensed beds. It is owned and operated by Unity Health, a non-profit health system that serves Cleburne, Independence, Jackson, Lonoke, Prairie, Van Buren, White and Woodruff counties in north-central Arkansas.

The medical and surgical facility is known for clinical excellence in cardiac rehabilitation, critical care, emergency medicine, maternity care, physical therapy, radiology, rehabilitation and sleep medicine. 7. Washington Regional Medical Centre – 425 beds

The Washington Regional Medical Centre in Fayetteville is a general medical and surgical facility with 425 beds. It is operated by Washington Regional, a community-owned, locally governed and non-profit healthcare organisation based in north-west Arkansas.

The multi-speciality hospital is designated as the region’s only Level II trauma and comprehensive stroke centre. 8. Mercy Hospital Fort Smith – 336 beds

The Mercy Hospital Fort Smith is a 336-bed general acute care hospital located in Fort Smith. It is run by non-profit health system Mercy, which operates more than 40 hospitals in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas.
