The cities of Hartford, Bridgeport and Waterbury are each home to two of Connecticut’s ten largest general hospitals, with the state’s remaining top four hospitals located in New Haven, Danbury, New Britain and Norwalk.

1. Yale New Haven Hospital – 1,541 beds

The Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven is Connecticut’s largest hospital, with 1,541 inpatient beds.

Operated by non-profit health system Yale New Haven Health, the tertiary medical centre specialises in more than 100 clinical areas and serves as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine.

The multi-speciality healthcare complex also includes the Smilow Cancer Hospital, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital.

Yale New Haven Hospital is nationally ranked in nine adult specialities. These are diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), gastroenterology and gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, urology, and pulmonology and lung surgery. 2. Hartford Hospital – 867 beds

The Hartford Hospital in Hartford is the second largest hospital in Connecticut, with 867 licensed beds.

The St Francis Hospital and Medical Centre is a 617-bed general medical and surgical facility and teaching hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.

Affiliated with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, the full-service acute care hospital forms part of Trinity Health of New England, a division of Catholic non-profit health system Trinity Health.

The Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut, is a general acute care teaching hospital with 456 inpatient beds.
