The state of New Jersey, US, had 110 registered acute care hospitals with 26,740 licensed beds, as of December 2021.

The Bergen and Essex counties are each home to two of the ten biggest general hospitals in the state while the remaining top six hospitals are in Morris, Camden, Passaic, Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean counties.

The 781-bed Hackensack University Medical Center, located in Hackensack, Bergen County, is the biggest hospital in New Jersey.

The multi-speciality teaching and research hospital is affiliated with the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and is part of Hackensack Meridian Health, a non-profit healthcare network based in New Jersey. 2. Morristown Medical Center – 735 beds

The Morristown Medical Center, located in Morristown, Morris County, is the second biggest hospital in New Jersey, with 735 beds.

It is the largest among the seven hospitals operated by Atlantic Health System in New Jersey. The multi-speciality, acute care teaching hospital is designated as a Level I regional trauma centre by the American College of Surgeons.

4. Cooper University Hospital – 663 beds

The Cooper University Hospital is a 663-bed general acute care teaching hospital in Camden, New Jersey.

The Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is a 614-bed academic medical centre in New Brunswick, Middlesex County.

It is run by RWJBarnabas Health and serves as the main teaching hospital of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The hospital is designated as a Level I trauma centre and is recognised for clinical excellence in the areas of cancer, cardiovascular, women’s and children’s care, as well as minimally invasive heart surgery and organ transplantation.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is rated high performing in the adult speciality of gastroenterology and GI surgery. 8. Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center – 597 beds

The Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center), is a 597-bed acute care teaching hospital in Livingston, Essex County.

 It is one of the 12 acute care hospitals operated by RWJBarnabas Health in the US state. The hospital is certified as the state’s only burns centre, as well as a regional perinatal centre housing a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

10. Englewood Hospital and Medical Center – 531 beds
