The city of Portland is home to five of Oregon’s ten largest general hospitals, with the state’s remaining top five hospitals located in Salem, Medford, Springfield, Clackamas and Bend.

Hospital Management has listed Oregon’s ten largest hospitals based on numbers of beds as of last year, using GlobalData’s research.

1. Oregon Health and Science University (OSHU) Hospital – 576 beds

The Oregon Health and Science University (OSHU) Hospital in Portland is Oregon’s largest hospital, with 576 licensed beds.

The multi-speciality academic medical centre also includes the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, which is recognised as one of the best paediatric facilities in the state.

OHSU Hospital provided emergency care to 27,475 patients last year. Of these, 20,631 were adults and 6,844 children.

The hospital is nationally ranked in six adult specialities, including cancer care, ear, nose and throat (ENT), geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, and pulmonology and lung surgery. 2. Legacy Emanuel Medical Centre – 554 beds

The Legacy Emanuel Medical Centre, also located in Portland, is the second largest hospital in Oregon, with 554 acute care beds.

The multi-speciality teaching hospital is part of Legacy Health, a non-profit health system that operates six hospitals and 70 clinics across the state’s greater Portland area and the mid-Willamette Valley.

The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to cardiology and heart surgery, kidney failure, colon cancer surgery, knee replacement, stroke management, COPD and pneumonia.

7. PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Centre at RiverBend – 347 beds

The PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Centre at RiverBend is a 347-bed general medical and surgical facility in Springfield, Oregon. It is operated by PeaceHealth, a non-profit health system based in Vancouver, Washington.

Designated as a Level II trauma and comprehensive stroke centre, the tertiary care hospital admits more than 23,000 patients and performs around 15,000 surgeries each year.

The Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Centre is a 303-bed general acute care hospital in Clackamas, Oregon. It is one of the 39 hospitals operated by Kaiser Permanente, a non-profit health system based in Oakland, California.

The hospital is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes, kidney failure, lung and colon cancer surgery, stroke management, COPD, pneumonia, back surgery and hip fracture.

9. Adventist Medical Centre-Portland – 302 beds
