
The global healthcare industry noticed a 4.7% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Cognizant Technology Solutions 25.51% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.18% when compared with August 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 14.39% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.18% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 6.61% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 12.3% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 79.73% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in September 2021, a 15.69% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 8.96% in September 2021, down 17.73% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 6% share in September 2021, a decline of 13.78% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 3.45% share in September 2021 and a drop of 10.42% over August 2021.
Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 12.69% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Cognizant Technology Solutions posted 9,791 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a drop of 11.97% over the previous month, followed by Accenture with 7,738 jobs and a 34.1% decline. International Business Machines with 7,240 IT jobs and AT&T with 1,149 jobs, recorded a 26.26% growth and a 2.96% rise, respectively, while DXC Technology recorded a 10.79% drop with 1,141 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry
Asia-Pacific emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 51.06% share, which marked a 31.93% drop over the previous month.
North America stood next with 38.38%, registering a 20.59% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with an 8.81% share and a 10.67% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was Haryana with a share of 0.72% and a month-on-month rise of 7.75%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.55%, registering an 18.7% decrease over the previous month.
