The global healthcare industry noticed an 8.2% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by CVS Health’s 9.9% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity declined 2.23% when compared with April 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.86% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, down 0.06% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 7.08% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 18.7% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 33.47% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in May 2022, a 34.12% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 21.41% in May 2022, down 24.51% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 17.01% share in May 2022, a decline of 20.82% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.58% share in May 2022 and a rise of 45.52% over April 2022.
Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in May 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 42.38% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during May 2022 over April 2022.
CVS Health posted 124 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a rise of 11.71% over the previous month, followed by Apria Healthcare Group with 94 jobs and a 17.54% decline. Teladoc Health with 48 IT jobs and McKesson with 33 jobs, recorded a 242.86% growth and a 23.26% drop, respectively, while Intermountain Healthcare recorded an 89.62% drop with 30 job postings during May 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 93.69% share, which marked an 18.77% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 3.75%, registering a 22.95% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 1.84% share and a 47.73% drop over April 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.4% and a month-on-month rise of 25%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.32%, registering a 100% increase over the previous month.
