The global healthcare industry noticed a 1.7% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by HCA Healthcare’s 14.69% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity declined 2.39% when compared with September 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.14% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.09% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 2.59% higher when compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 5.06% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive healthcare IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 39.85% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in October 2021, a 13.92% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 19.06% in October 2021, up 45.3% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer Support Specialists with a 14.41% share in October 2021, a decline of 16.56% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.56% share in October 2021 and a drop of 12.84% over September 2021.

Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 0.15% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

HCA Healthcare posted 262 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 3.68% over the previous month, followed by CVS Health with 188 jobs and a 3.09% decline. McKesson with 79 IT jobs and Mayo Clinic with 68 jobs, recorded a 16.18% growth and a 3.03% rise, respectively, while Sanford Health recorded a 4.26% rise with 49 job postings during October 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 96.86% share, which marked a 3.52% drop over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 1.74%, registering a 40.91% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 1.18% share and a 16% drop over September 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.17% and a month-on-month drop of 25%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.06%, registering a flat growth over the previous month.
