Here are the top five hospital construction projects that commenced in Australia in Q1 2022, according to GlobalData’s construction projects database.

1. Queen Elizabeth Hospital Redevelopment: Stage III A – $221m

The project involves the redevelopment of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woodville, South Australia.

Construction work started in Q1 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q2 2024.

The project is a part of a major redevelopment of a 327-bed, acute-care teaching hospital that provides inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and mental health services to a population of more than 250,000 people living primarily in Adelaide’s western suburbs.

2. Pinkenba Quarantine Facility – $100m

The project involves the construction of a 1,000-bed COVID-19 quarantine hub on 30ha of land in Pinkenba, Queensland.

Construction work commenced in Q1 2022 and is expected to finish in Q2 2022.

The project aims to provide quarantine facilities and act as an alternative to hotel quarantine in Queensland. Once complete, the facilities can accommodate around 1,450 people.

3. Weststate Private Hospital – $45m

The project involves the construction of a five-story private hospital comprising 22 beds on 0.16ha of land in Brisbane, Queensland.

Construction work started in Q1 2022 and is forecast to complete in Q1 2023.

The project aims to transform the former Townsville West State School at West End to provide better healthcare services including orthopaedics, cardiology, urology and maxillofacial surgery. It will create 200 jobs in the region.

4. Cairns Hospital Mental Health Unit Development – $41m

The project involves the redevelopment of the Cairns Hospital Mental Health Unit in Cairns, Queensland.

Construction work commenced in Q1 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2023.

The aim of the project is to provide better mental health facilities in the region.

5. Redland Satellite Hospital – $29m

The project involves the construction of a new innovative Satellite Hospital in Redland, Queensland.

Construction work started in Q1 2022 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2023.

The main aim of the project is to provide new and better hospitals all over Queensland.
