Dutch diagnostic imaging company Affidea has acquired Clínica Radiologia de Albufeira and Clínica do Coração do Alentejo, two medical centres in Portugal.

The financial terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

The deals allow Affidea to enter the Algarve region while expanding its footprint in Evora, where it already operates one medical centre.

Opened in 2009, Clínica do Coração do Alentejo in Evora specialises in cardiology services while also providing urology, internal medicine, pneumology, rheumatology, psychiatry and dermatology services.

Radiologia de Albufeira is a diagnostic imaging clinic in Algarve that provides radiology services such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance, ultrasound, mammography, bone densitometry exams and X-rays.

Affidea currently operates 332 centres in 15 countries and serves more than 12 million patients a year, according to its CEO Guy Blomfield.

Blomfield said: “Today, we are excited to further expand our presence in Portugal, a market with immense potential.

“It is a testament to our commitment to continuously invest in strategic acquisitions that align with our ambition of adding more out-of-hospital services in a variety of specialities, complementing our advanced diagnostics suite, and allowing us to offer more accessible high-quality medical services to the communities we serve.”

The acquisitions are part of Affidea’s plan to expand its clinical services portfolio by adding new out-of-hospital services.

They are the company’s fifth investment this year and come after Affidea expanded its operations in Switzerland, Romania, Croatia and the UK.

As part of these deals, 80 professionals have joined Affidea, with more than 40 of these being doctors.

Affidea Portugal country manager Miguel Santos said: “These acquisitions prove our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services and expanding our reach to more regions in Portugal.

“We look forward to leveraging our expertise and resources to enhance the patient experience and continue providing high-quality diagnostics and outpatient services to the local communities.”
