BayCare Health System has announced plans to build a new comprehensive acute care facility in Manatee County, Florida, US, in October this year.

The new hospital, named BayCare Hospital Manatee, is being established with an investment of approximately $548m.

It is claimed to be Manatee County’s first not-for-profit hospital and the only one located on the north of the Manatee River.

The project, which will be BayCare’s 17th hospital, will feature 154 beds in private rooms and a 45,000ft² medical arts building.

BayCare also plans to expand this initial capacity to 207 as the community’s needs grow.

Expected to open in 2027, the new hospital will be situated on the Robinson Gateway Property on the Moccasin Wallow Road, a mile north of the I-75 and I-275 intersection in Manatee County.

BayCare Hospital Manatee will meet the growing healthcare needs of the community, offering a range of services such as neonatal care, gastroenterology, cardiology, and urology.

Architectural company Gresham Smith designed the hospital.

BayCare has been preparing for this expansion since 2022, addressing zoning and site preparation while also establishing a BayCare Medical Group physicians’ office in Palmetto, close to the upcoming hospital’s location.

The health system offers home health and telehealth services in the area and plans to include additional services in the medical arts building, including ambulatory, outpatient imaging, diagnostic and laboratory services.

BayCare provides behavioural health and paediatric services in West Central Florida.

BayCare co-chief operating officer Kimberly Guy said: “As Manatee County experiences rapid growth, it’s imperative to prioritise smart, sustainable development strategies to ensure well-being of this community.

“At BayCare, we recognise the importance of smart growth initiatives that not only accommodate increasing population but also promote access to high-quality healthcare services.”

Last year, BayCare confirmed plans to construct a new facility for St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
