BayCare Health System has initiated a pilot project using artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted voice technology to revolutionise clinical documentation for nurses.
The project, which began with St. Anthony’s Hospital team, uses Aiva Health’s Nurse Assistant to enhance the way nurses document clinical assessments and access vital patient information.
The pilot involves a select group of team members at the hospital in St. Petersburg using the Aiva Health app on iPhones issued by BayCare to enter electronic records and update clinical information directly into secure software.
This technology provides onscreen verification of transcriptions, enabling nurses to ensure accuracy before saving the information to the patient’s chart.
BayCare is exploring voice technology with various vendors to identify ‘effective’ solutions for care teams to optimise their workflow and enhance patient interactions.
BayCare president and CEO Stephanie Conners said: “We are excited to be at the forefront of how technology can improve health care, not just for patients but also for those nurses and team members delivering care.

By GlobalData“Finding ways to better support clinical documentation is a win for everyone involved and allows nurses and our entire care teams more time and energy to focus on our patients.”
The organisation has implemented AI-assisted software for physicians in their offices, but hospital care presents unique challenges.
In a hospital setting, numerous providers assess and monitor each patient throughout their stay, depending on each other’s timely assessments to deliver quality care.
The collaboration with developers gives BayCare and its staff the chance to recommend improvements to the technology’s functionality.
They are also among the first to demonstrate how voice-enabled AI can streamline clinical documentation, alleviate the burden of charting, and enhance the overall delivery of care.
