A joint venture of Baylor Scott & White Health, a not-for-profit healthcare system, and Select Medical, has reached an agreement to acquire an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Lakeway, Texas, US.

Upon completion of the transaction, which is scheduled to be concluded by 1 July this year, the acquired 36-bed hospital will operate under the name of Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation – Lakeway.

Baylor Scott & White Austin – Round Rock region president Jay Fox said: “With our combined presence in the Austin area, we will have a unique opportunity to leverage the skills and strengths of our two organisations to elevate the rehabilitation services we offer in the community.”

The JV, which was established in 2011 in North Texas, includes 66 outpatient rehabilitation clinics, three inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, and home health rehabilitation services, collectively staffed by more than 1,900 employees.

The takeover marks the first expansion of the JV into Central Texas. It is further planning to include additional outpatient therapy clinics to strengthen its outpatient rehabilitation footstep across the Austin/Round Rock region.

Select Medical president and CEO David Chernow said: “We saw a growing need to expand our acute rehabilitation services to serve a wider patient population throughout Texas.
