Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has announced the master plan images launch for the A$350m ($214.97) Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment, which outlines facility expansions and major upgrades.
The plan is a blueprint for integrating the redevelopment with existing structures and future growth opportunities.
Following consultation with more than 250 patients, carers, staff, volunteers and community members, the master plan has been shaped to reflect their vision for the hospital’s future.
Key feedback called for more green spaces, improved access to natural light, updated facilities, enhanced accessibility, and additional parking for patients and visitors.
Highlighted in the redevelopment are several key clinical priorities, including a new expanded intensive care unit, an enlarged emergency department, purpose-built adult in-patient accommodation, extra surgical theatres and improved antenatal care.
The plan also covers increased ambulatory and outpatient care capacity and other clinical and non-clinical enhancements to support evolving care models.

By GlobalDataThe project aims to increase the capacity of the existing Canterbury Hospital campus facilities, including the Canterbury Health Centre and the main hospital building.
With master planning complete, the team will progress to the planning and design phases, with ongoing consultation expected to continue throughout this year.
The last significant upgrade of the century-old hospital occurred in 1998.
The redevelopment will help the hospital better serve the health needs of a diverse and expanding community.
It is part of a broader initiative by the Minns Labor government, which is delivering more than A$3bn in hospital infrastructure across Western Sydney.
NSW health minister Ryan Park said: “We are working to deliver the healthcare infrastructure to meet the needs of this growing community. What this facility will mean will be enhanced services and more beds for Canterbury and surrounding suburbs.”
