Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is set to launch a new mental health facility, named the William K. Schubert, M.D., Mental Health Center, reported cincinnati.com.

Located in College Hill, the new centre is said to be the largest inpatient mental health provider among US children’s hospitals.

It is over two-thirds bigger than the previous centre and features 83 private patient rooms with overnight accommodations for families.

Construction on the project began in May 2021. This 160,000ft2 expansion was carried out using the $30m donation from the Convalescent Hospital Fund for Children, with the total project entailing an investment of $108m.

The centre’s design includes a Family Resource Center, an enhanced educational centre, as well as therapeutic treatment spaces.

According to the news publication, the facility’s opening coincides with a rise in mental health concerns among youth across the US.

“These children deserve our best ideas, our most courageous strategies, our long-term commitment, and our utmost compassion.

“With the opening of this facility, we have another tremendous opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our patients, families and staff in terms of improved access and the quality of care we deliver.”
