Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH), a network of healthcare providers in New Jersey, US, has commenced the construction of its new healthcare facility at Metropark Station in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

HMH Metropark Station, which is located at a mass transit hub, is set to provide accessible, comprehensive care to residents of New Jersey, New York, and the Northeast, daily.

Expected to open in 2025, the new HMH Health and Wellness Center will span over 60,000ft², offering a range of services that include primary care, and medical and surgical specialities.

It will also feature advanced imaging facilities, an urgent care unit, a sports and spine centre of excellence, rehabilitation services, occupational health services, phlebotomy, and a retail pharmacy.

HMH Metropark Station is being developed as part of a larger Metropark development project undertaken by DOR Woodbridge, a Russo Development-led joint venture, which received a $110m tax credit grant.

The initiative aligns with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s vision for modernising state transportation hubs into multi-use spaces.

HMH said that its facility also qualifies for multi-use platform under New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s ASPIRE programme, which supports transformative developments that offer community benefits.

HMH’s Metropark facility is a response to the need for accessible healthcare in suburban areas, traditionally car-dependent for medical services.

With the completion of the HMH Metropark building, a residential complex with retail space and around 230 units will follow. The area’s residential growth necessitates accessible healthcare, which the Health and Wellness Center aims to provide.

It will cater not only to residents but also to travellers along the Northeast Corridor, including major cities such as New York and Washington DC.

Furthermore, HMH is expanding its patient services by opening outpatient care centres across New Jersey, including recent additions in Eatontown, Clark, and Paramus.

HMH CEO Robert C Garrett said: “60,000 people travel through Metropark Station each month as a hub for New Jersey Transit and Amtrak, soon these passengers will have access to quality care steps from their commute.

“Convenient access to a wide array of medical services at a mass transit hub complements HMH’s efforts to address how social determinants of health are impacting health equity.”
