Diabetes care technology provider DexCom and AI-based personalised nutrition assessments provider RxFood have joined forces in Canada to create an AI-powered nutrition and glucose monitoring digital solution for diabetes management.

As part of this partnership, Dexcom’s real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) technology will be integrated with RxFood’s personalised nutrition assessments.

Integrated with Dexcom CGM glucose data, the new RxFood app is now available to various healthcare stakeholders across Canada.

This includes clinics, hospitals, health authorities, pharmacies, insurers, and employers, aiming to enhance diabetes and nutrition management programmes.

Following the roll-out, Dexcom G6 CGM or Dexcom G7 CGM users can avoid manual food tracking by using the RxFood app to photograph their meals.

RxFood then creates detailed diet quality metrics, merging them with glucose data, providing patients and healthcare providers with a comprehensive understanding of health and glucose control.

This integration of food and glucose data is said to be essential for effective diabetes management and personalised nutritional guidance on a larger scale.

According to a press statement, the RxFood app’s efficacy was validated through a three-year clinical trial at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, demonstrating improved accuracy in carbohydrate counting, reduced counting errors, and lower A1C levels.

Furthermore, the technology streamlines day-to-day diabetes management for parents and supports clinicians in providing more personalised care recommendations for families across Canada.

Dexcom vice president and general manager André Côté said: “At Dexcom, introducing industry-leading technology that transforms day-to-day diabetes management for users around the world has been our primary goal for over two decades.

“Working closely with RxFood on this innovative solution has allowed us to advance this even further.

“We look forward to demonstrating how our partnership will help continue to simplify diabetes management for individuals and families, providing deep, actionable nutritional insights to enhance overall health.”
