US-based Endeavor Health has announced the launch of a cloud-based digital pathology platform, developed in partnership with Google Cloud.
This approach aims to revolutionise pathology services by utilising digital technology and AI to deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses and expand patient access.
Despite the digital advancements in other medical fields, pathology has traditionally relied on physical slides and microscopes, leading to slower diagnostic processes and limited patient interaction.
Endeavor Health’s new digital pathology platform addresses these challenges by enabling healthcare providers to collaborate more effectively and granting patients greater involvement in their care.
The collaboration with Google Cloud was initiated after Endeavor Health recognised the necessity for a scalable digital model that could enhance pathology services across various healthcare systems.
The digital pathology system is designed to facilitate the sharing of digital files among physicians for second opinions and to empower patients to engage more actively with their care decisions.
At Endeavor Health, the shift towards digital pathology will soon allow patients to schedule clinical visits with a pathologist, providing them the opportunity to view their medical images and discuss their diagnosis.
Endeavor Health pathologist and digital pathology project leader John Groth said: “Through this shift to digital pathology, patients can uniquely access their images, and more easily connect with pathologists, and better understand their diagnosis.”
This initiative by Endeavor Health advances the healthcare industry’s exploration of digital pathology, marking the first fully connected, cloud-based, and patient-centred approach in the sector.
Google Cloud Healthcare and Life Sciences global director Shweta Maniar said: “This collaboration sets the stage for a new era in digital pathology, where technology removes traditional barriers and empowers healthcare providers to deliver faster, more accurate and more accessible diagnostics.”
Last June, Endeavor Health announced the development of the Davis Family Center for Preventive Genomics.
