Australian cancer care company GenesisCare has officially opened its new A$54m ($35m) integrated cancer centre and research hub in Campbelltown, New South Wales (NSW).

The facility is expected to deliver more than 13,000 cancer treatments per year.

Initially, the centre will create more than 30 healthcare jobs, with potential growth to 60 positions.

Opening of this new facility brings advanced cancer care closer to home for the South West Sydney community and people living in the Southern Highlands.

Spanning four stories and covering a gross floor area of around 3,927m², the new GenesisCare centre is designed to scale up services in response to the increasing healthcare demands of the region’s growing and ageing population.

The centre is equipped to provide chemotherapy, radiation therapy, haematology, as well as access to clinical trials and research programmes, with future plans to include Theranostics and nuclear medicine.

The integrated approach at the Campbelltown centre allows patients to access various services, including pathology and allied health services, through GenesisCare’s partners.

Additionally, diagnostic imaging is set to be introduced soon.

The latest development is a collaborative effort between GenesisCare, Campbelltown City Council, construction company Erilyan, and Northwest Healthcare Properties.

According to GenesisCare, the construction of this facility engaged over 1,500 workers, including 750 local subcontractors, accumulating more than 220,000 working hours.

The centre’s launch further signifies the completion of Stage 1 of the broader health precinct being developed by Northwest Healthcare Properties.

The precinct’s strategic location near green spaces and major roads also ensure convenient access for patients from the Macarthur region and beyond.

GenesisCare NSW general manager Richard Briggs said: “Our services will complement and work with existing cancer treatment providers in Campbelltown, supporting one of Australia’s fastest growing cities.

“Our doctors are well established in the local area. They either work, live and teach in South West Sydney and know this community well.”
