Grady Health System, which houses Grady Memorial Hospital and a trauma centre, has introduced Grady Air, a medical helicopter for emergency response.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with Air Methods, marks an advancement in emergency medical services, providing intensive care unit-level care for patients.
The new air ambulance will ensure trauma care can be accessed faster across the Southeast.
Staffed with the health system’s medical personnel, including trained nurses, critical care specialists, and paramedics, Grady Air integrates medical expertise with the aviation proficiency of Air Methods’ experienced pilots.
Air Methods Business Development vice-president Brandon Ryan said: “As a company committed to delivering critical care when and where it’s needed most, we’re proud to partner with Grady on this vital initiative.
“This aircraft represents the future of air medical services in the region, combining unmatched clinical expertise with aviation excellence.”

Equipped with life-support tool, the helicopter can house multiple caregivers, enabling continuous care in transit.
Grady Air will operate 24/7, providing emergency air medical services and critical interfacility transports within metro Atlanta and the broader region.
Alongside the launch of Grady Air, Grady Memorial Hospital will maintain its services to accommodate medical air transport from across the region.
This ensures coordinated access to trauma care for all patients.
Grady Air medical director Dr Ryan Fransman said: “Time is of the essence when it comes to trauma care.
“Every minute we save in transporting a critically injured patient to our trauma centre increases their chance of survival. As Atlanta’s only Level I trauma centre, this new helicopter gives us the reach, speed, and medical capacity to make a real difference when every second counts.”
The launch of Grady Air follows last year’s announcement of a new 24-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, further enhancing the hospital’s care capabilities.
