
University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute has added a structural heart programme and a new cardiac catheterisation laboratory at UH Lake West Medical Center, broadening its cardiovascular services.
This move aims to enhance the quality of patient care through minimally invasive procedures.
University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute president Mehdi Shishehbor said: “University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute has identified UH Lake West as a centre of excellence.
“Our highly skilled caregivers allow you to stay close to home while receiving the best cardiac and vascular care possible.”
Justin Dunn, an interventional cardiologist, has been appointed as the regional director of the Valve & Structural Heart Disease Center at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute and will be in charge of the new programme at UH Lake West.
The expansion includes treatments such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for aortic stenosis, left atrial appendage occlusion for atrial fibrillation, and percutaneous mitral valve repair to address blood leakage from heart.

By GlobalDataMoreover, UH Lake West Medical Center is now equipped to perform an increased range of peripheral, coronary, and electrophysiology procedures, which includes the management of the heart’s electrical activity and the treatment of patients with pacemakers on-site.
The new lab is outfitted with latest technology, enabling enhanced diagnostic imaging for structural, coronary and peripheral procedures.
These advancements not only aid in identifying arterial blockages but also offer enhanced treatment options.
Additionally, the new equipment is designed to lessen exposure to radiation, ultimately providing enhanced safety.
In line with its commitment to patient experience, UH Lake West is also constructing a hybrid operating room, with completion expected later in the year.
