Ireland’s Health Service Executive (HSE) has awarded a national framework contract to Imprivata and its regional partner PFH Technology Group for the deployment of the Imprivata OneSign enterprise access management tool.

A single sign-on solution, OneSign removes the requirement to repeatedly type usernames and passwords for clinical and administrative apps. This is said to translate into higher productivity and security and lower IT expenses.

OneSign does not need to purchase and install additional software or hardware.

HSE will deliver the solution as part of the eHealth National Single Sign-on project. On behalf of the HSE, Tallaght University Hospital carried out the framework competition.

The hospital also undertook a study, which found the Imprivata technology saving up to 50 minutes per shift for healthcare workers.

Initially, the solution will be deployed at Tallaght University Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, Rotunda Hospital, Galway University Hospital, Cork University Maternity Hospitals, National Forensic Mental Health Service Hospital, and National Rehabilitation Hospital.

HSE eHealth Programme manager Cathal Collier said: “This contract awarded to Imprivata and PFH Technology Group is part of a number of national Programmes and Strategies that have been initiated to harness technology, which is enabling HSE to make significant strides towards delivering digital health systems across Ireland.”

Tallaght University Hospital chief information officer David Wall said: “Imprivata OneSign will enable clinical staff that need to access patient records electronically to move between computer systems without the need to log into solutions more than once.

“Clinical staff will be able to move seamlessly between systems staying with the same patient, which provides the infrastructure to support effective clinical decision making.”
