Connecticut’s Johnson Memorial Hospital, part of Trinity Health Of New England, has relaunched its Karen Davis Krzynowek Cancer Center following a revamp.

The $6m refurbishment of the cancer centre, located on the hospital’s Enfield campus, expanded the facility by 5,500ft2.

Completed in 14 months, the project brings together the hospital’s outpatient cancer services. As a result, patients can gain access to physician offices, medical oncology and radiation oncology services in one location.

The renovated cancer facility comprises new medical oncology infusion bays with privacy screening, televisions for personal use, and space for families.

Hospital leadership and local officials participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the centre.

This project forms part of a broader $40m expansion for developing an outpatient services hub on the Enfield campus.

After construction is over, the S. Prestley and Helen Blake Ambulatory Care Center will feature a modernised surgery centre with four operating rooms, recovery areas, and more space for medical office.

Johnson Memorial Hospital chief administrative officer Robert Roose said: “At Johnson Memorial Hospital, we keep our patients at the center of everything we do. This important project will increase coordination of care by bringing all of Johnson’s outpatient cancer care programs into one collaborative space, and at the same time, improve the patient experience with increased privacy in a first-class, calm, and comfortable environment.

“We are confident that these improvements will ease the cancer journey for many individuals in the greater Enfield community.”

A 92-bed facility, Johnson Memorial Hospital includes a medical-surgical unit, a labour and delivery unit, and an adult inpatient psychiatric unit, among others.
