Kontakt.io, a US-based health technology start-up that provides inpatient journey analytics, has secured $47.5m in its Series C funding round.

The round was spearheaded by the growth equity unit of Goldman Sachs Asset Management (Goldman Sachs), which focuses on investing in businesses with strong market positions and sustainable business models.

Goldman Sachs partner Christian Resch will now become a member of the Kontakt.io board and provide guidance on the company’s next growth phase.

The company plans to use the fresh infusion to enable its growth and expand its AI solutions.

Kontakt.io utilises AI, real-time locating systems (RTLS), and Internet of Things (IoT) to offer insights into a patient’s movement across their healthcare journey.

The aim is to help healthcare organisations optimise staff, patient, and resource flows, allowing them to enhance operational coordination and delivery of care services.

The company has already delivered substantial improvements in patient and employee experiences for its customers, including the NHS, HCA, Mercy Health, the VA, Northeast Georgia Health System, and Trinity Health.

All these improvements have resulted in rapid returns on investment from enhanced operational efficiency for the healthcare organisations, the technology vendor claims.

Since 2013, Kontakt.io has deployed more than four million IoT devices in the field and has also delivered its solutions to over 32,000 end users across various verticals.

The company said that this latest investment comes at a critical time when operational excellence has become a key concern for hospitals, especially considering the rising complexity, cost burdens, and employee attrition rates in the sector.

According to Kontakt.io, failures in hospital care delivery represent an annual waste of around $300bn, or nearly $300,000 per licensed bed, in the US alone.

Kontakt.io CEO Philipp von Gilsa said: “Clinical staff, the key asset of health systems, must be freed to focus on their single most important job: providing patient care.

“Our partnership with Goldman Sachs will help Kontakt.io further expand into AI to orchestrate care delivery resources and processes, putting staff and patients back at the centre of care.”
