Lifepoint Health’s business unit Lifepoint Rehabilitation, UW Health, and UnityPoint Health – Meriter are set to construct an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the greater Madison area in the US.

Located at the southwest corner of Lacy Road and Highway 14 in Fitchburg, the second free-standing hospital will feature 40 all-private rooms and span 58,000ft².

The hospital will offer comprehensive care for adults recovering from serious debilitating illnesses, injuries or conditions such as stroke, neurological diseases, and spinal cord injuries.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the construction of the new rehabilitation hospital is expected to begin in 2025, with the opening projected for 2026.

Once completed, the Fitchburg hospital will become part of Lifepoint Rehabilitation’s extensive network, which includes over 40 inpatient rehabilitation facilities nationwide.

Lifepoint Rehabilitation will oversee the daily operations of the new hospital.

The addition of the Fitchburg facility is expected to significantly enhance the availability of inpatient rehabilitation services in the community.

Furthermore, the latest expansion aims to meet the growing demand for intensive rehabilitation services in the region.

The new hospital is designed to complement the partners’ existing 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in eastern Madison, which has been operational since September 2015.

UnityPoint Health – Meriter market president James Arnett said: “At UnityPoint Health – Meriter, we are committed to expanding rehabilitation services to meet growing needs of our community, fostering healing, restoring lives and promoting a healthier future for all.”

UW Health is an integrated health system affiliated with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Meanwhile, UnityPoint Health – Meriter operates in partnership with UW Health and is an affiliate of UnityPoint Health.

UW Health vice-president and regional chief operating officer Ryann DeGraff said: “We are excited to partner in adding a world-class rehabilitation hospital southwest of Madison, to complement our east side location.

“We look forward to building on success of our existing hospital to meet growing demand for same patient-centred care in a location that may be more convenient for some patients and their families.”
