Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center in Maryland, US has obtained funding from Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen to fight diabetes.

The $1m infusion, secured by Congressman Steny Hoyer in the fiscal 2023 appropriations, will support the hospital’s Cardiovascular Center for Diabetic Patients.

The funds will be utilised for various components of the facility, including a diabetic clinic, the Diabetic Education and Resource Center, a diabetes-related vascular screening centre, the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center, and a cardiovascular clinic.

It is expected to enhance access to specialised care for diabetic and pre-diabetic patients.

The aim is to address the lack of healthcare resources in the area, and contribute to preventing complications associated with diabetes while cutting the number of unnecessary hospitalisations in the region.

Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center president Eunmee Shim said: “Adventist HealthCare is extremely grateful to receive this sum, as it will position the hospital to better care for our neighbours in Fort Washington, as well as attract the best and brightest doctors and nurses.
