Mayo Clinic has announced plans to expand its Rochester campus, aimed at modernising and streamlining the facility.

The project will involve redesigning the layout of Mayo Clinic’s hospital and parking facilities to enhance the patient experience and accommodate new medical technologies, reported startribune.com.

The campus expansion will encompass several blocks downtown including extension of clinical space from the Gonda Building and incorporating existing structures like the Lourdes High School building, which was acquired by Mayo in 2013.

By consolidating services and leveraging digital and data technologies, Mayo Clinic aims to enhance patient care while preserving the human touch.

The expansion is part of Mayo Clinic’s broader investment goal of $3.5bn for the Destination Medical Center (DMC) initiative, which aims to establish downtown Rochester as an international medical hub.

The project’s implementation is expected to face scrutiny and require state review.
