India-based private multi-speciality tertiary care provider Global Health Limited (Medanta) is set to enter the North East region of India with the establishment of a new 400-bed super-speciality hospital in Guwahati, Assam.
The board of directors has approved a three-acre land parcel acquisition from Assam Electricity Grid for Rs300m ($3.51m), including additional costs for registration and possession, for the hospital.
Estimated at around Rs5bn, the investment for this project has also been approved, inclusive of the land cost, to develop the hospital.
Situated on National Highway 27, the proposed site offers connectivity, positioning it to enhance healthcare services for over 50 million people across Assam and neighbouring states.
The new facility will offer over 20 super specialities, encompassing organ transplants and the latest robotic procedures.
Medanta chairman and managing director Dr Naresh Trehan said: “At Medanta, we believe that quality healthcare should be a right, not a privilege and through this initiative, we reaffirm our mission to make cutting-edge healthcare accessible to all, no matter where they live.”

Medanta group CEO Pankaj Sahni said: “The North East region is rich in cultural diversity, but continues to face a significant gap in access to high-quality healthcare. Guwahati, often regarded as the gateway to the North East, offers strong connectivity across the entire region and is ideally positioned to address this critical need.
“We are excited to contribute to strengthening the healthcare ecosystem and to serve communities that have long been underserved.”
Medanta signed a memorandum of understanding with DLF Group in August 2023 to establish a 400-bed multi-super speciality hospital in Greater Kailash-I, Delhi.
