UAB Health System affiliate Medical West Hospital Authority has started the construction for a healthcare facility in the US state of Alabama with an official ground-breaking ceremony.
The new nine-storey structure will serve as its replacement facility and is expected to open in 2024.
Located at 4501 Bell Hill Road, the new hospital will cover a 412,000ft2 area. It will have 200 beds and will also feature a five-storey medical office building.
The new Medical West Hospital will feature advanced imaging technology, a new surgical and endoscopy suite and additional intensive care beds.
Federal agency USDA has agreed to fund the $400m project.
The project is also supported by Concourse, Raymond James, Thornton Farrish, PNC Bank, GNC, and Maynard, Cooper & Gale.
CBRE Healthcare is serving as the project manager, while Brasfield & Gorrie has been appointed as the general contractor.
CCI, Bhate Geosciences and Building & Earth have been selected as the site engineers, with HKS and KPS were finalised as the architects of the development.
Medical West said that it has been planning for a replacement infrastructure for several years.
Medical West CEO Keith Pennington said: “Our current facility was built in 1964 and although multiple renovations have been made throughout the years, we knew that a new facility would have to be part of our future growth plans.
“We could not be more excited to work with this exceptional team of firms that will help us welcome this new state-of-the-art hospital to the residents of West Jefferson County.”
