Meijer, a supercentre chain that mainly operates across the Midwestern US, has announced a $3m donation to support the construction of the Joan Secchia Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The new three-storey facility looks to serve children who have suffered life-altering injuries or illnesses.

It will cater to a broad spectrum of paediatric conditions, including brain and spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multi-trauma, and cancer.

The building will include 24 private inpatient rooms, child-friendly technology, and spaces dedicated to specialised services.

The $70m project is scheduled to break ground this year and be completed in 2026.

This new hospital is a collaborative venture between Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation and Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
