Multiplex Constructions has secured an order from the Queensland Government to lead the design stage of the new Coomera Hospital on the Gold Coast in Australia.

The $1.3bn facility is set to provide 404 new beds, including various medical services such as surgical, ambulatory, mental health, and sub-acute care.

This hospital will feature emergency treatment spaces, a satellite medical imaging department, operating theatres, birthing suites, and consultation rooms.

Gold Coast Health and Hospital Service CEO Ron Calvert: “The northern Gold Coast is the fastest growing region in Queensland.

“With population growth and ageing continuing to drive increased demand for healthcare, the tender announcement for construction of the Coomera Hospital is welcome news for our city.

“The new Coomera Hospital will provide 404 beds as well as supplement services provided at Gold Coast University Hospital, Robina Hospital, Varsity Lakes Day Hospital and our community health facilities.”

The new hospital aims to offer residents closer access to healthcare and reduce travel time to other major hospitals in South-East Queensland.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman expects the project to be a ‘game-changer’.

Fentiman noted: “This major milestone is yet another example of the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering a world-class public health system for all Queenslanders.

“The new Coomera Hospital will make a significant difference to Gold Coast locals by bringing healthcare closer to home and taking the pressure off the Gold Coast University and Robina hospitals.”

With the population catchment of Coomera Hospital anticipated to double by 2036, the master plan allows for future expansion of services to meet the growing community’s needs.

Preparatory works have already begun, with the project scheduled to complete in H2 2027.
