Atlantic Health System has agreed to purchase Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, a 111-bed acute care hospital, from Adventist HealthCare.

The transaction is subject to state regulatory review, which may take several months to complete, and follows the completion of a merger between Atlantic Health System and Chilton Hospital on 1 January 2014.

Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, which was the only Adventist HealthCare facility located in New Jersey, will continue as a non-profit, acute care general hospital under Atlantic Health System’s ownership.

According to Atlantic Health System, the addition of Hackettstown Regional Medical Center will provide clear benefits to the community and help to advance health care in New Jersey.

The addition will help expand outpatient and preventive medicine services available within the region, expand evidence-based quality measurement and improvement, and also expand access to a regional health information network.

Benefits also include broader patient access to paediatric and other speciality care; clinical trials; and advanced protocols for emergent care, including complex stroke care, the latest cardiac diagnostic and treatment interventions, and advanced neonatal care.

Additionally, it is also expected to help drive efficiencies, cut costs and provide improved patient care.

"The hospital has served its community and region for decades, and this affiliation will provide patients in the area with expanded access to high quality, specialised services and programmes."

Atlantic Health System president and CEO Joseph A Trunfio said that Hackettstown Regional Medical Center is a natural fit for the Atlantic Health System family.

"The hospital has served its community and region for decades, and this affiliation will provide patients in the area with expanded access to high quality, specialised services and programmes," Trunfio added.

Hackettstown Regional Medical Center features a Sleep Disorders Center, a Wound Healing Center, the Joan Knechel Cancer Center, a Total Joint and Spine Center, a bariatric surgery programme; a Childbirth Family Center, a Primary Stroke Center, the Counseling and Addiction Center, the Center for Healthy Living, emergency and critical care services, a laboratory, a Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy Center, and emergency medical transportation services.

Adventist HealthCare, a non-profit health organisation based in Maryland, operates five hospitals and numerous other health facilities.

Atlantic Health System, a non-profit health care organisation in New Jersey, owns and operates Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Chilton Medical Center and Goryeb Children’s Hospital.
