Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), a group of hospitals in Pennsylvania, has selected Orion Health to provide its enterprise health information exchange (HIE) solution.

The HIE solution is used for access and exchange of comprehensive patient data between care providers in three full-service hospitals, nine health centers and primary and specialty clinics.

LVHN will leverage Orion Health HIE, which includes its clinical portal, rhapsody integration engine and clinical data repository.

Orion HIE aggregates patient data from many sources to enable physicians in LVHN’s facilities to see patients regardless of their location.

The solution offers components including integration engine, enterprise master patient index, physician and patient portals, data repository, provider index, and analytical and quality reporting tools.

The application helps physicians to manage disease programmes by coordinating care tasks between multiple healthcare providers, and enabling clinicians to set up plans of care.

LVHN chief information officer Harry Lukens said that the solution enables physicians to have the information they need at the right time in order to make better healthcare decisions.

"Orion provides us with a flexible solution that gives providers across our locations a single, comprehensive view of their patients’ medical history, while insuring security and privacy," Lukens added.

LVHN president and CEO Ronald Swinfard said that properly communicating health information is especially important.

"Setting up a network between that offers quick access to detailed and accurate information will mean better care and is the right thing to do for children and families," he added.
