US-based Roper Technologies has agreed to acquire CliniSys Group, a European provider of laboratory information management systems (LIMS), for £170m.

CliniSys provides clinical laboratory and order communication systems to more than 2,000 laboratories in 34 countries.

Collaboration between Roper subsidiary Sunquest and CliniSys will not start until formal approval is received.

Roper noted the acquisitions, combined with Sunquest and Data Innovations, will further expand its portfolio of companies focused on diagnostic solutions excellence.

It will also create new capabilities that support clinical testing processes and connectivity to systems, instruments and providers worldwide.

Sunquest president Matthew Hawkins said: "Our mission is to make healthcare smarter and patients safer.

"Laboratory test results inform the vast majority of patient diagnoses and care planning.

"Sunquest, Data Innovations, CliniSys and Atlas share the same vision in creating solutions that promote patient safety, better outcomes, operational efficiency and financial growth."

The closing of the CliniSys acquisition is based on approval from the competition authorities in Germany and the UK.

The company also entered a definitive agreement to buy Atlas Medical, a US-based provider of clinical process and connectivity solutions.

Roper president Brian Jellison said: "We have now deployed over $1.7bn in acquisitions in 2015."

Earlier this month, Roper closed its acquisition of Aderant Holdings and completed its sale of ABEL Pumps to Hillenbrand.
