The new campus of the Silver Cross Hospital in Illinois, US, is set open next month.

Construction of the six-storey, 289-bed facility began in 2009. The new campus, due to open its doors on 26 February, will contain huge private patient rooms, bedside care and family areas, natural and enhanced lighting, and noise control, the hospital officials said.

The hospital will also provide a patient care model with smaller units that position nurses closer to patients, to improve care delivery.

The $370m project will include technology and expanded services through partnerships with Children’s Memorial Hospital, The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago Medical Center.

An expanded partnership with Children’s Memorial Hospital is expected to bring paediatric specialists to children, close to home.

A new partnership with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago facilitates inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative therapy.

Silver Cross Hospital president and CEO Paul Pawlak has said that there will be a "housewarming party" at the hospital on 12 February to give the public a sneak peak around facility, including the operating room and interventional core, which contains a cath lab, interventional radiology lab and an electrophysiology suite.

A four-story outpatient medical services building and a cancer centre are also expected to open in 2012.
