Maternity care clinic Oula is expanding its collaboration with Mount Sinai Health System to launch a new clinic in Morningside Heights, New York City, US.

The new clinic is scheduled to open towards the end of 2024.

This alliance started in 2021 and has so far helped deliver 1,000 babies. Its expansion will result in more service lines and closer integration.

The aim is to address gaps in maternity care and contribute to an increase in births at Mount Sinai West.

Oula combines midwifery and obstetrics to provide prenatal and postpartum support, with babies delivered by Oula midwives receiving assistance from Mount Sinai’s experts.

The partnership focuses on providing evidence-based, low-risk maternity care.

According to Oula, the collaboration has reported positive results, including a 25% lower caesarean rate compared to New York City benchmarks.

In addition, it is said to have demonstrated a 33% better rate for low birthweight, as well as a 51% better preterm rate.

The initiative is said to align with efforts to enhance US maternity care, aiming to reduce maternal mortality and caesarean rates.

Mount Sinai doctors faculty practice CEO Kelly Cassano said: “We are excited to further expand access to collaborative obstetrics-midwifery care services for expectant parents on their labour and delivery journey.

“This partnership with Oula continues our commitment to serving a diverse patient population, delivering compassionate care during one of life’s most important milestones, and optimising the latest techniques and innovation in our medical facilities.

“We also know that investments in women’s health lay the foundation for improving future health outcomes, promoting healthier babies and parents.”

Oula has secured $22.3m in funding so far and accepts insurance, including Medicaid. Mount Sinai Health System is an academic medical system.
