US-based primary care paediatric practice Pediatric Associates (PA) has joined forces with Ambience Healthcare to improve paediatric care services using generative AI (GenAI).

With a network of more than 1,100 providers across six US states, PA offers a comprehensive range of services such as X-ray and laboratories.

As part of the latest collaboration, Ambience will provide its AI operating system to improve care quality for PA patients and reduce clinicians’ documentation time.

The alliance will further help in streamlining paediatric workflows, facilitating full integration with eClinicalWorks (eCW) electronic health record (EHR).

In addition, PA and Ambience co-developed a suite of AI applications designed to assist clinicians in paediatric care, enabling them to dedicate more time to patient interaction.

The companies claim that these applications will help save more than an hour per day on documentation.

They also noted that the paediatric environment presents various challenges for AI technology, with appointments often featuring multiple speakers and languages, and clinicians managing several patients simultaneously.

To address these challenges, Ambience will provide its AI medical scribe, called AutoScribe,to help PA clinicians avoid manual entry of clinical notes into eCW, as it automatically handles documentation and integrates it into the patient’s chart.

Furthermore, Ambience’s AI-powered clinical documentation improvement (CDI) assistant, AutoCDI, structures documentation to support accurate ICD-10 and CPT coding.

The deployment of these AI-powered solutions will allow PA clinicians to engage more meaningfully with both parents and children during appointments, without the distraction of notetaking.

As PA continues to expand its operations, Ambience will facilitate easy onboarding with eCW, simplifying workflows and reducing the time clinicians spend in the EHR.

PA chief operating officer Andy Thompson said: “By deploying AI, Pediatric Associates is providing our clinicians with the most advanced technology available to allow them to focus on patients and families instead of administrative work.

“Our team at Pediatric Associates worked closely with Ambience to co-create the single best AI solution for paediatrics, which seamlessly integrates into eCW. Everyone benefits when clinicians can focus their attention on patients instead of the computer screen.”
