The Queensland Government has introduced the new Open Hospitals portal, delivering real-time health data to people with regard to the performance metrics of 25 hospital emergency departments as well as seven satellite hospitals.
The portal is a fulfilment of the Crisafulli government’s commitment to its 100 Days Plan to introduce real-time health data.
It offers critical information, such as median wait times of patients and the number of those triaged and awaiting treatment, updated every 15 to 30 minutes.
This marks an enhancement over the previous government’s approach of releasing health data every quarter, which often became available months later.
The move is part of the government’s broader Easier Access to Health Services Plan, aimed at addressing and resolving the challenges within the health system.
Efforts have already been made to eliminate the Patient Tax introduced by the previous administration and to engage with clinicians to clarify the naming of satellite hospitals, reducing confusion for Queensland residents.

By GlobalDataHealth and Ambulance Services Minister Tim Nicholls said: “Today, the Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland, launching the state’s first real-time health data with our Open Hospitals portal.”
The portal also guides Queenslanders to alternative care options, such as the virtual emergency care service, further enhancing the state’s health services.
Customer Service and Open Data Minister Steve Minnikin said: “We want to be Australia’s most customer-service-focused government, and Queensland Health is showing what can be achieved when Queenslanders are put first.
“Working across Government departments, we will continue to streamline government services and access to information for all Queenslanders.”
