Region Västra Götaland, a healthcare region in Sweden, has chosen Sectra to implement its digital pathology solution, expanding a long-standing partnership that spans over two decades.
The integration of this technology is expected to advance diagnostic accuracy and expedite treatment, particularly in cancer care in the region.

Region Västra Götaland consultant pathologist and department manager Jan Siarov said: “Sectra’s solution will help us save valuable time through various features such as eliminating the need to switch between different applications, make digital images instantly available and facilitate the necessary processes of collaboration and second opinions.”
The healthcare region, which services around 1.7 million individuals through 17 hospitals, will benefit from a unified diagnostic process.
Pathology laboratories in Gothenburg, Borås, and Trollhättan will now be able to review and collaborate on cases with greater ease, supported by integrated AI tools.
The digital workflow will also facilitate immediate and remote access to digital images of tissue samples, moving away from traditional microscope-based methods.
Sectra Scandinavia sales director Olof Andersson said: “Using a single application for the entire process—from identifying cases in efficient dynamic worklists to reviewing images and reporting on cases—streamlines workflows, a critical factor in handling increasing imaging volumes and providing efficient care.

The contract for the digital pathology solution marks an extension of the healthcare region’s use of Sectra’s medical imaging solutions.
