A former detox facility near the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center campus has been renovated into a residential treatment centre for individuals with serious mental illnesses.

The County of Santa Clara, in partnership with the Behavioral Health Services Department and Momentum for Health, has transformed the facility into a 28-bed Adult Residential Treatment (ART) programme.

This initiative is expected to improve care for those with behavioural health needs.

Completion of this project was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.Top of Form

Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services Department director Sherri Terao stated: “This new treatment centre is an important part of the County’s care system, allowing clients to live in the least restrictive community setting while avoiding lengthy stays in costlier inpatient psychiatric hospitals or mental health rehabilitation centres.”

Operating 24/7 under the management of Momentum for Health, the ART programme will cater to individuals who are transitioning from intensive care settings to independent living.

Costing around $1.8m, the facility’s revamp was completed to offer various services, including psychiatric care, case management, addiction treatment, and support for mental health and co-occurring disorders.

Located in San José, the programme aims to bridge the gap between acute care and independent living, offering services for up to two years.

It claims to provide a supportive environment, individual and group treatments, social reintegration opportunities, and assistance with daily living activities.

According to a press statement, the facility will offer nutritionally healthy meals, housekeeping, transportation, among others.
