Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakoka, US, has announced an expansion project that will see construction of a new orthopaedic centre and gastrointestinal (GI) clinic, reported keloland.com.

The GI clinic will replace the old medical building that was recently demolished. The new building will feature 400 parking spaces with the GI clinic on top.

Once the new orthopaedic centre is constructed, it will be the tallest building on the campus.

The new orthopaedic centre spanning 205,000ft² will be constructed between the children’s hospital and the surgical tower in the campus.

Sanford Hospital director of planning & construction Eric Kinghorn said: “The skyline will definitely change if you are coming from the south-west; it is a curtain wall system, it will be glass and metal panel façade – you will notice this one from quite a distance away, it will stand above everything else.”

The new parking ramp and GI clinic are scheduled to open in about a year, while the orthopaedic centre is expected to open in fall of 2025.

In November 2022, Sanford Health and Fairview Health Services, a provider of health care in Minnesota, signed a non-binding letter of intent to create a new health system.

Sanford Health caters to over one million patients and 220,000 health plan members across 250,000 square miles.

This integrated health system has 47 medical centres, 2,800 physicians and advanced practice providers.
