US-based palliative care company VITAS Healthcare has introduced hospice care services in Alabama, providing end-of-life care to patients and families in Daphne-Mobile and Dothan.
In addition to offering hospice care in Alabama, the company has expanded its services in Florida Panhandle, with referrals and admissions now accepted throughout Tallahassee.
The offices in Tallahassee, Daphne-Mobile and Dothan will act as hubs for interdisciplinary teams delivering clinical, emotional and spiritual support across various settings.
Patients in the Panhandle requiring more intensive care can access inpatient hospice facilities equipped with home-like amenities and round-the-clock support.
VITAS’ offerings for hospice-eligible patients in Florida and Alabama encompass a comprehensive range of services.
These include 24/7 access to admissions personnel, regular visits from hospice teams, access to trained clinicians, continuous home care, a comprehensive pharmacy programme, and the provision of medical equipment and supplies.

In an effort to expand its service reach, VITAS signed an agreement to acquire hospice operations and an assisted living facility from Covenant Care last month.
VITAS Healthcare operations senior vice-president Jennifer Nygaard said: “At VITAS, we are committed to providing premier end-of-life care to individuals and families across our communities.
“The addition of these new service areas enables our compassionate care teams to extend their expertise, so patients and their families receive the critical support and comfort they deserve during one of life’s most challenging times.”
Last year, VITAS opened an inpatient hospice house in Santa Ana, California, which is expected to provide care for more than 300 seriously ill patients each year.
The hospice house is the only freestanding inpatient hospice facility in Orange County.
