The Government of Western Australia (WA) has released the tender for the Mullewa Hospital redevelopment’s main works, marking a step in the project’s progression.

The new facility is being delivered after consulting with the local community and aims to provide a comprehensive range of health services.

It will improve the hospital’s primary and community care facilities and add a 24/7 emergency department, multi-purpose and allied health consultation rooms, treatment spaces equipped with virtual care technology, and an ambulance bay.

Site preparations are currently underway, with main construction works due to begin later this year.

WA health minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said: “I’m pleased to announce a significant milestone in the Mullewa Hospital redevelopment, with the release of the tender for main works.

“The new hospital will represent a modern, fit-for-purpose facility providing the local community with access to the very latest in healthcare technology.”

Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton said: “The Cook Government’s commitment to providing the people of Mullewa with a contemporary facility has not wavered.

“With detailed plans completed, I’m excited to see the redevelopment move into this important new phase and look forward to sharing updates on progress in the coming months.”

In October 2024, the WA government issued an invitation to local contractors and suppliers to participate in the Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment project.

The call for tenders encompasses interior fit-outs and structural works, as well as various essential services.

Last September, the government announced plans to expand Osborne Park Hospital by adding a mother and baby unit to support the mental health of expectant and new mothers in WA’s northern suburbs.

It is part of a wider initiative to enhance services for women and newborn babies in the region.
