AdventHealth to launch new outpatient programme for teens

The programme is scheduled to begin on 4 August 2025.

AdventHealth in the US has announced the launch of a new Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) aimed at supporting teens aged 13 to 18 in Western North Carolina (WNC) with mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression.

Scheduled to begin on 4 August 2025, the scheme is a collaborative effort with the Hope Coalition, designed to address psychiatric disorders, behavioural issues, or dual diagnoses in adolescents.

The Hendersonville-based IOP welcomed local leaders, community members, and mental health advocates to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, showcasing the services that would be provided to enhance adolescent mental health infrastructure in WNC.

AdventHealth Medical Group Adolescent Behavioral Health Hendersonville social worker Shalom Littrell said: “Having this programme will allow for early intervention.

“Many adolescents face different challenges with their mental health. An IOP provides a protective approach before issues escalate to crisis levels, helping prevent hospitalisations or long-term disengagement from school and peers.”

The IOP allows teens to receive necessary care and support while continuing to live at home, with programme durations ranging from six to eight weeks.

Participants will have access to medication management and individual therapy sessions with a licensed therapist.

In addition, the programme includes sessions for parents or guardians.

Littrell added: “Our programme will include sessions with the parents, which will strengthen communication and support systems at home, which is crucial for lasting recovery.

“By reducing the burden on emergency services and inpatient facilities, the IOP will help build more resilient and responsive mental health infrastructure in the community.”

AdventHealth is open to referrals from guardians, parents, school counsellors, and healthcare providers.

Earlier in the year, AdventHealth partnered with Biofourmis to introduce a remote patient management programme in Central Florida, US.
