Altera Digital Health has introduced Sunrise Axon, a solution integrated within the Sunrise electronic health record (EHR) platform, to provide real-time, secure, deduplicated and normalised patient data for US-based healthcare providers.
The technology aims to support clinical decision-making and improve provider efficiency by embedding the data exchange within existing workflows.
Developed in collaboration with Health Gorilla, Sunrise Axon supports interoperability with organisations aligned to the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA).
It allows clinicians to access information across more than 220 million patients, 750,000 clinicians and 147,000 care centres, including imaging providers, labs, and health information exchanges (HIEs) across the US.
Sunrise Axon integrates external data directly into the EHR, removing reliance on third-party brokers while eliminating disruptive workarounds.
Altera Digital Health Sunrise executive vice-president Jay Adams said: “With Sunrise Axon, we’re making it easier for clinicians to get the full picture about their patients—without leaving their workflows.
“This is about better-informed care, the ability to make faster decisions and seamless access to outside data. It’s a critical evolution of our EHR that adds measurable value for both clinicians and the patients they serve.”
By broadening access to data, Sunrise Axon supports care transitions and coordination while helping reduce waste such as duplicative testing expenses and potentially replacing multiple local HIEs.
In August 2025, Altera Digital Health launched TouchWorks Note+, an ambient listening and note generation solution to streamline the documentation process for healthcare providers.
Completely integrated with TouchWorks EHR, this solution represents an advancement in Altera’s plan to develop AI and modernise EHR workflows.
