BHRUT adopts Wolters Kluwer’s clinical decision support system

The adoption of the system is intended to progress clinical decision-making, as well as patient care.

East London and Essex’s acute care provider Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) has adopted Wolters Kluwer’s UpToDate Enterprise Edition, a clinical decision support (CDS) system.

The system's adoption is intended to progress clinical decision-making, as well as patient care.

BHRUT's decision to implement the solution is aimed at supporting its clinical staff, which includes junior doctors, medical students, and consultants.

UpToDate Enterprise Edition offers the care team evidence-based information.

It features AI-Enhanced Search, which allows clinicians to utilise natural language queries and get relevant responses from UpToDate clinical content, helping reduce the time spent.

The AI-powered analytics dashboard enables BHRUT to analyse usage data. This can help inform management of population health and support medical education.

The adoption of UpToDate Enterprise Edition is part of BHRUT’s digital transformation strategy, which focuses on staff well-being and patient care.

According to Wolters Kluwer Health, more than 100 independent studies have associated the use of UpToDate with enhanced hospital performance such as shorter patient stays, a reduction in needless diagnostic testing, and fewer medical errors.

Wolters Kluwer Health International segment general manager and vice-president Christian Cella said: “We’re proud to support Barking, Havering and Redbridge - NHS Trust in their mission to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care—from King George Hospital in Goodmayes to Queen's Hospital in Romford.

“UpToDate Enterprise Edition is designed to meet the needs of BHRUT’s modern healthcare teams, combining trusted clinical content with AI-powered tools that enhance decision-making, education, and operational efficiency.”

In October 2025, Wolters Kluwer Health introduced the next generation of Lippincott DocuCare. This academic electronic health record (EHR) platform is designed to support nursing students as they move into professional roles.
