Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit multispecialty academic medical centre, has unveiled the first renderings of the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center, in collaboration with Cleveland Cavaliers and Bedrock Real Estate.

The new facility will be on the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, US.

It is being established to enhance athletes' overall performance and will become the new home for the Cavaliers, a Cleveland-based professional basketball team.

Spanning more than 210,000ft², the centre is designed by architectural company Populous and marks the first vertical development of Bedrock's Cuyahoga Riverfront Master Plan, a $3.5bn vision to transform 35 acres of the riverfront, focusing on accessibility and sustainability.

The centre will offer care for the public, including access to training equipment and advanced testing, as well as feature experts from various medical specialities such as cardiology, neurology, orthopaedic surgery, pulmonology and sports medicine.

Leveraging big data and AI technology, the centre will also provide insights into human performance to maximise athletes' potential.

These insights will also benefit other populations such as medical patients, first responders, and military personnel.

The Cleveland Clinic has been the Cavaliers' official healthcare provider since 1993, and this centre represents the most ambitious joint project to date.

Led by Populous Studio, the centre’s architectural design reflects three key principles and promises a holistic approach to training, treatment, nutrition, and recovery.

It will be the only Cleveland Clinic-backed professional facility open to the public and will support the Cavs Academy programme, serving more than 50,000 youth athletes a year.

Pending approval, the ground-breaking for the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center is expected before the end of this year.

Cleveland Clinic CEO and president Tom Mihaljevic and CEO chair Morton Mandel said: “This project will not only enhance the landscape of Cleveland but will also provide new approaches and applications to improve the health of our community through multidisciplinary care for patients of all athletic abilities.”
